Diamond Dichroic Chaton Beads |
Dichroic on 1 mm Clear beads. |
This frit was made by applying dichroic to tiny, 1 mm sized faceted COE 104 CLEAR glass chatons. Since the factory already makes these chatons, adding the dichroic made it simple. These melt very easily, and encase nicely. Or use them as surface decorations. But, they cannot be inserted directly into the flame. Please watch the Video on these Dichroic Chaton Beads. These are now made with the Diamond Dichroic for easier, more successful use. 1/2 ounce- $6.99 |

Metallic Golden Coppery Black Glass Rods |
You must use a Propane torch to bring out the coppery color in this glass, such as a Hothead or MagTorch. If you use an oxygen/propane torch, you will get black with red lines in the glass only - no coppery color. The oxygen quickly burns off the copper. You can use an Oxygen/propane torch to work the glass, but to bring out the coppery color, you must switch to an all propane torch at the end. $9.99/lb |
<<-- This is the results with the use of an oxygen/propane torch. We also tried to use an oxygen/propane torch with the oxygen turned off. It will NOT bring out the coppery color. This glass needs a blast of Propane, Natural Gas or Mapp Gas mixed with air, which you only get from a lampworking propane or Mapp Gas torch. Mapp Gas produces a more golden color. Propane produces a more coppery color. |
Directions for bringing out the coppery color: You must use an all propane or all Mapp Gas torch for this glass. Before we work on a bead, let’s try something first. Turn your torch all the way up. Take a cold coppery black rod and begin to flash it into the flame about 1-2 inches from the torch head, and only for a second at a time, pulling it back out. Do this several times. It should make a loud whooshing sound each time you enter the flame with the glass rod. Keep doing this and keep an eye on the color. It will begin to turn coppery at the tip. That whooshing sound is the key. If it does not make that whooshing sound, the air/fuel mixture is not right for it to turn coppery. Now, with a bead, after you work it up, you need to cool it down some. It cannot be glowing. Begin to flash it the same way you did with the rod, with the flame way up and only a second at a time, very close to the torch head. Listen for the loud whooshing sound. That should do it. |
Here's what I did;
Using a neutral flame.
Made a white base bead for testing
purposes.
Applied raised dots on the entire base bead
using Copper Black.
Partially melted the raised dots using the
very tip of the neutral flame.
Once I was happy with the size of the
raised dots, I cooled down the bead.
Turned my torch way down to a reduction
flame. The white/yellow oxy flame was about an 1" long.
Strike
the bead quickly (while spinning it and passing it) through the flame.
Each time you do, let the bead cool down just a bit, then repeat several
times.
I passed the bead directly above the
yellow/white reduction flame.
MORE INFO FROM OUR FAITHFUL
CUSTOMERS:
In regards to the "Metallic Golden Coppery Black". First you need a torch that you can adjust the O2/Propane mix. After several different failed attempts to bring out the copper, I finally got it! First Melt your glass with an oxygen/propane mix, and shape how you like. It seems to not melt in straight propane as well. Then turn your torch to propane only, close off O2, and turn flame down very low. Let bead cool until rich black, then place back in the bluest part of the propane flame somewhat close to the torch nozzle turning slowly and the copper comes right out instantly!! It was amazing how it popped out. I tried EVERYTHING and nothing else worked so I am very happy! If others are having trouble this may help. Thanks! Gina If anyone else has success bringing out the coppery color using an oxy/propane setup, please send the info. A lot of people would be very grateful. Thanks again, Julie & Gina, for passing on the info. |

Aventurine Luster Twisties |
Each one of these glass rods has two twisted stripes of Gold Aventurine Luster on the outside. It is best to apply the opaques over a base color so you don't cover and waist the luster. Careful not to overwork the opaques or you'll bury the luster. The transparents you can use as a base because you can see the luster through the glass. |

AURORA BOREALIS BLACK |
Like the Coppery Black, this glass requires a
propane only torch and handles very much like the Coppery Black. For those
who have mastered the Coppery Black, you know the reward of taking the time
to learn how to use it.
You must use a Propane torch to bring out the rainbow color in this glass, such as our propane torch, a Hothead or MagTorch. If you use an oxygen/propane torch, you will quickly burn off the rainbow sheen. You can use an oxygen/propane torch to work the glass, but to bring out the rainbow colors, you must switch to an all propane torch at the end. |
| Before working on a bead, let’s try something first. Turn your torch all the way up. Take a cold Aurora Borealis Black rod and begin to flash it into the flame about 1 inch from the torch head, and only for a second at a time, pulling it back out. Do this several times. It should make a loud whooshing sound each time you enter the flame with the glass rod. Keep doing this and keep an eye on the color. It will begin to turn rainbow at the tip. That whooshing sound is the key. If it does not make that whooshing sound, the air/fuel mixture is not right . | ||||||
| Now, with a bead, after you work it up, you need to cool it down some. It cannot be glowing. Begin to flash it the same way you did with the rod, with the flame way up and only a second at a time, very close to the torch head. Listen for the loud whooshing sound. That should do it. :) |

Introducing Devardi Borosilicate Glass Rods - COE 33 |
As most of you know, this is the first batch of Devardi Boro we have carried. We have tested it extensively and have found it to be an excellent boro. We suggest using it only with Devardi Boro until we can test it more thoroughly with other brands. Testing with other brands has been minimal so far. If you wish to combine this boro with other brands, please test it first for best results. |
